Vapor barriers will reduce the chance of water vapor condensing and collecting in new insulation housing. When vapor barriers are placed between existing and added insulation, moisture is trapped, which reduces the insulation value and could cause moisture damage to a house.

Don't add a vapor barrier if there is existing insulation.

If you have a new home or your ceiling has insulation on top, you'll also need an insulation box.
